History
In 1978 Sherrill Easley envisioned a full service supply company that could cater to the needs of a growing oil field. Desert Energy Equipment, Inc. was formed as a partnership between Grady Bingham, Ed Barham and Sherrill Easley. The company started as a new and used oil field supply company with a small yard on West 42nd Street in Odessa, Texas. As the company grew, a new location was purchased in 1980 on West Loop 338 and the company moved. The new location covered over six and one half acres to provide room for expansion. A new 8400 sq. ft. office was built to house the staff and a warehouse. As the business grew buildings were added to house a wire rope shop, wire rope storage and an X-Cube fabrication shop. The yard has been fully developed for use as a Bridon American Wire Rope warehouse. Desert Energy employees have over 200 years of oil field experience.
When the company opened, they were an authorized distributor for The Crosby Group, Diamond Chain, Rochester Wire Rope, Grinnell fittings, Oteco valves and rig parts. The Crosby Group and Diamond Chain plus many other product lines are stilled carried today.
In 1988 the company developed a line of fishing tools to fill a need in the sucker rod and well servicing business. To better serve the industry, the tools are made so that they will interchange with O’Bannon fishing tools. The Desert Energy fishing tool is a quality product sold and shipped nationwide.
In 1999 the wire rope business was expanded when the first press was purchased. The 800 ton press made wire rope fabrication possible and shortly thereafter, a 10,000# spooling machine was purchased. A 500 ton ESCO press was added in 2000 to facilitate the growing wire rope business. In 2003, as the wire rope business continued to grow, a 100,000# test bed with a gripper was built. In 2005 a second reeling machine was purchased and the wire rope storage area buildings expanded to 10,000 sq. ft. In 2006 a new 500 ton ESCO press was purchased with ¼” through 1 ¼” Quick Pass Crosby dies.
A complete line of products from The Crosby Group is available. Grade 100 chain, blocks, sheaves and clevis are among the many products carried in stock. Chains can be custom made to the customer’s specifications.
A complete line of Jones-Blair Industrial Paints is available. Popular industrial colors and coatings are carried in stock and the other colors and coatings can be ordered.
The X-Cube Hydrogen Sulfide filter was built and patented in 2005 (patent number 6893484) to remove H2S from various gas streams. The filters can be installed on tank batteries, waste disposal streams, and other applications where hydrogen sulfide is present to prevent H2S release into the atmosphere.
Desert Energy Equipment, Inc. carries valves, pipe fittings, and drilling rig supplies as well as Ridgid Tools for the oil field.
